Margaret Sanger, Snopes, Planned Parenthood and the Ku Klux Klan

Margaret Sanger, Snopes, Planned Parenthood and the Ku Klux Klan

We really don't need to consult Snopesthe internet Urban Legend Reference Page, to answer the question, "Was Planned Parenthood Founder Margaret Sanger really a keynote speaker at a Ku Klux Klan Rally?"

This is an easy one.

Just turn to page 366 of the Margaret Sanger's own autobiography, Margaret Sanger: An Autobiography and read the following excerpt:

I accepted an invitation to talk to the women's branch of the Ku Klux Klan...I saw through the door dim figures parading with banners and illuminated crosses...I was escorted to the platform, was introduced, and began to speak...In the end, through simple illustrations I believed I had accomplished my purpose. A dozen invitations to speak to similar groups were proffered.  (Margaret Sanger: An Autobiography, P.366)

And wait, did she just say:
A dozen invitations to speak to similar groups were proffered.  (Margaret Sanger: An Autobiography, P.366)

Yep!  What did she say to these crazed Klan bigots that caused her to get 12 more invitations?  What kind of hate monger gets invited to 13 Ku Klux Klan rallies?   This blog seeks to answer those quations.

The edited quote that you repeatedly use for Margaret Sanger on your blogsite, takes her words and presence at that klan meeting out of context and bends the meaning to suit your agenda. That's called the "cherry picking fallacy".

Additionally, you don't really want any of your readers to go to the well-trusted Snopes site because they will not find what you imply they will when you titled this entry "Margaret Sanger, Snopes, Planned Parenthood and the Ku Klux Klan; Margaret Sanger, Snopes, Planned Parenthood and the Ku Klux Klan". Nor do you want them to know that there's some evidence that, in spite of family denials, Prescott Bush may have been the treasurer of Planned Parenthood in the 1940s.

See this for actual context regarding the klan from a woman who would go anywhere to spread her message of freeing women from the economic drain of unwanted pregnancy through birth control:

"In 1926, Sanger gave a lecture on birth control to the women's auxiliary of the Ku Klux Klan in Silver Lake, New Jersey.[49] She described it as "one of the weirdest experiences I had in lecturing," and added that she had to use only "the most elementary terms, as though I were trying to make children understand."[49] Sanger's talk was well received by the group, and as a result, "a dozen invitations to similar groups were proffered."[49]

You posted this entry as "Brother Declan". That implies to me that you are a man of religion, a Christian. Perhaps you are Catholic or an Evangelical. If that is so, I am dismayed to read all the mendacious things you have posted here about Sanger. You don't like what she represents, I get that. But you stretch your dislike to the point of sophistry, wanting to blame the thousands-of-years-old-act of abortion on Sanger when she was never involved in a single one other than to nurse women back to health after they felt desperate enough to have a dangerous, frequently fatal, illegal one. She did not invent abortions nor did she invent birth control. She merely helped make them safe and available to women when they were needed.

Liberal snopes is a joke just like your party. Snopes was fact checked a few years ago and all they are is a liberal married couple that spread bullshit just like the stupid people who believe in it.
